Swatantra Vaartha
On Monday night after dinner a man came to vist us at Sandeep’s House. He turned out to be Dr. Radhey Shyam Shukla and he is the editor of the Swatantra Vaarttha, India’s largest daily Hindi Newspaper. Sandeep showed him a DVD of her performance in Cuttack and gave him some pictures of the performance.Very early the next morning when Sandeep burst into our bedroom with a bundle of newspapers under his arm. Freya got a front page spot, with six photos! Interestingly, another Australian was on the front cover, Greg Chappell, who is the coach of the Indian Cricket team. Apparently he had been accosted at the Bubaneshwara airport in Orissa, where we were last week.
Anyhow here is the cover of the paper and a link to a large photo I have made for those of you who can read Hindi.
The name of the editor of SWATANTRA VAARTHA is Dr. Radhey Shyam Shukla, who is not only a journalist, but also a great scholar of Indian history. It wouldn’t be out of place, if his name is also mentioned.
